Zac Dooley
Fellow BMES, Sr. Manager, Research & Testing at Orthofix Medical Inc.
I’m fortunate in life to work for a company that directly impacts patients’ lives. I’m not a surgeon, or the inside the OR team assisting with the surgery, or even an employee at the hospital or surgery center where the surgery is taking place. But I am part of a team that provides surgical tools and implants to make life-changing surgery happen. Hence, I’m part of the team behind the team behind the team.
In this role, I help develop instruments and implants for spine surgery. This could be correcting scoliosis, collapse disc, spinal trauma, etc. My role is to ensure that the necessary product testing is completed, which plays a part in the regulatory approval of the instruments and implants.
We continuously challenge and improve our products so that the patients get the latest and state-of-the-art innovations. This leads to a long-term solution to the patient’s pathology and better patient outcomes.
At the end of the day, I go home knowing someone got better. I may not have been there to see it happen, but I played my part in making it happen.
