Honoring the field that keeps America healthy.
American Health Discovery is a nationwide campaign to celebrate 250 years of biomedical engineering breakthroughs — and honor the people, innovations, and stories that keep America healthy and thriving.
Why 250 stories?
In 2026, America turns 250. For every one of those years, biomedical engineering has been quietly transforming lives — from contact lenses to pacemakers, insulin pumps to rapid diagnostics. Most people never see this work. We’re changing that.
American Health Discovery is collecting 250 stories — one for every year of American innovation — that prove biomedical engineering is essential to our health, security, and future.
Our mission
Making the invisible visible
Biomedical engineering spans healthcare, consumer technology, advanced manufacturing, sports rehabilitation, and more. It’s the pipeline that turns impossible problems into proven solutions. But because the work happens in labs, hospitals, and behind the scenes, most Americans don’t know it exists.
This campaign makes that work visible. Every story shared, every supporter who signs on, every partner who contributes — it all strengthens the movement to secure lasting recognition for the field that keeps our nation healthy.
Led by BMES.
Powered by an alliance.
American Health Discovery is led by the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) — a community of researchers, clinicians, engineers, students, and industry leaders advancing human health across universities, hospitals, device companies, and labs nationwide.
But this campaign isn’t just BMES. It’s a growing alliance of professional societies, healthcare organizations, medical device companies, patient advocacy groups, and individuals who recognize biomedical engineering as essential to America’s future.
What we’re building
Two goals. One movement.
A living collection of voices that prove biomedical engineering transforms lives — published on this site and shared with policymakers, media, and the public.
Collect 250 stories
Establish a National Biomedical Engineering Day
A permanent, annual day of national recognition for biomedical engineering, pursued through congressional resolution.
