Elena Rosca
Ashesi University, Head of Engineering Department
We started the first biological engineering program in Africa, which allows students to study synthetic biological engineering amongst other focuses in the field. Ashesi Univeristy has participated in the iGEM competition since 2017, even before the launch of the biological engineering program.
The team has focused on develop different biosensors to address national and global crises such unsustainable mining leading to significant environment destruction, pollution and loss of life to the prototyping of a bio-responsive and bio-sensing concrete for monitoring ocean conditions.
You can see one of the team's page https://2025.igem.wiki/ashesighana/. Without Biological Engineering such innovative approaches will not be possible.
