Dr. Arlen Meyers

President and CEO of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs

Getting a health innovation from an idea to a patient takes engineers, clinicians, investors, regulators, and manufacturers all working toward the same goal. Biomedical engineering is the connective tissue that holds that process together.

That's how Arlen Meyers sees it. A surgeon turned entrepreneur, he founded the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs to bridge the gaps between the people who discover, the people who build, and the people who deliver.

"You have to get the same people in the room and be willing to listen," he says. "The clinical mindset is very different than the engineering mindset, and the engineering mindset is very different than the investor mindset."

When those connections work, innovations reach patients faster — and lives change sooner.
